Located just 20 minutes from Iceland main Airport is a stunning new hotel that has recently opened to service Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon. Now you can enjoy the Spa and Thermal Hot Springs throughout the day and retreat to the comfort of your own private room at night to repeat again the next day.

No matter where you draw your travel inspiration from, you’ve likely seen a photo of Iceland’s Blue Lagoon. Its icy blue water has been the subject of millions of camera lenses and some consider it to be the most Instagrammed place on the planet

it is situated within the UNESCO Global Geopark and comprises of a series of pools containing geothermal seawater rich in minerals like silica and sulphur that are reputed to be good for treating skin conditions.

Originally opened as just a Spa and Lagoon, the complex has expanded over subsequent years to also incorporate a restaurant, and in 2017 construction was finalised on The Retreat at Blue Lagoon Iceland.

The original Blue Lagoon Spa, the subsequent Silica hotel and other extensions of the Blue Lagoon facilities were designed by Sigríður Sigþórsdóttir founding partner of Basalt Architects.

A degree of flexibility was also incorporated into the design to enable the plan to adapt in response to unexpected discoveries during the excavation process. As a result, the building merges seamlessly with the environment and incorporates some of the natural features.

The hotel comprises of 62 suites that range from cosy double rooms to suites the size of a small home. The design of the rooms all follow a minimalist aesthetic, with floor-to-ceiling windows that focus attention on views of the lagoon or the moss-covered rocks.

Withing the hotel common areas you'll find a cosy library with an honesty bar, fitness centre, and a gallery showcasing 20th-century Icelandic ceramics. To nourish you throughout your stay dine at the Spa Restaurant, where simple, light fare can be enjoyed while swaddled in a comfortable robe and staring out at the calming waters.

Location

Only 20 minutes’ drive from Keflavík International Airport, Iceland’s premier geothermal spa is most visitors’ first or last sight of the volcanic island. And what an impression the Blue Lagoon leaves you with. Plonked down in this steamed-up landscape of mineral-rich waters and rejuvenating silica mud, you can’t help but feel you’ve experienced life on another planet.

How to get there

The Blue Lagoon is located only 20 minutes from Keflavík Airport and 50 minutes from Iceland's capital city Reykjavík. If you are only here for a short flight layover, the hotel can organise a private shuttle bus to collect and return you to the Airport. If you are coming from elsewhere in Iceland then we highly recommend driving as it is without a doubt the best way to get around Iceland.
